Picture Editing

The picture on the right is the original one that i took and i wanted to see if it would be good in black and white. So using Photoshop i transformed the picture into black and white and this is what i got as a result below. This picture can be effective but not for a front cover because it is better to have color on it to catch peoples eyes. However a picture like this can be used inside the magazine. It can be used on a dark page to add even more to the effect that pictures can also look good without color as well. Without using color it makes the picture look a bit older than it is with color.

Task Set

The task set was to create a music magazine. It had to be of a certain genre and appeal to people who are interested in that type of music. We needed to have a front cover, a contents page and a double page spread. Which includes pictures that we have taken ourselves. It had to be like a real magazine that you can find in shops.

I decided upon creating a "R n B" magazine as this is the type of music that i am interested in. The target audience are people from the ages of 16-30. This way i can appeal to a wider range of audiences without restricting my coverage to just young people my age.

To make the most of my magazine, i have done a lot of research on music magazines that are similar to the type of magazine that i am making. I have also researched the types of pictures that are used so that i can get a similar picture taken to add a good effect.

Front Cover Idea

Front Cover Idea:

This is an idea i had for a front cover. I am going to use the name REPLAY for my magazine as this is a well known music term. I have done it in black and white to see if it adds an extra effect. This is not going to be my final design however it is one of my ideas. Not having any color makes it look a bit boring so i think i might have some color put into it so that it looks more attractive and it will catch peoples eyes and make them want to buy it.

Title Ideas

These are some of the ideas that i had for magazine titles. I listed them so that people can have a look over all of them and see which ones they like and dislike. This way i can get a good gist of which one is good and suits the magazine genre.

I also have some font ideas that i am thinking about using for my front cover title. I have got a vast range of fonts in one of the other posts which you can see and see whether you like them or not.

Font Ideas

These are some of the font options that i decided upon for the title of my front cover. I have chosen a variety of them so when it comes to make my final decision i have a lot of options to choose from. The fonts that are in black are the actual names of what they are under in photoshop apart from the word replay which was one of my title ideas.

School Magazine Contents Page

The contents page uses colours that represent the schools colours. A picture of one of the students in the library is used to show how dedicated people in the school are to learning. The school logo has been used for each point of the contents to emphasise that it is a magazine for WGSB.

The contents that are listed are in bright colors so that people can see them even clearer and it catches peoples attention easier. This way they can see what the school has to offer and they can see that the things on offer are good and this gives the school a good name.

using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally you must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate your grasp of DTP.
